Audiovisual dissociation

Visual and audio information that are not following the same spatio-temporal continuum.

Characteristics:

  • Often used to convey alternate states of reality and subjectivity
  • Part of the internal or external logic of the film considering the narrative involvement of the technique
  • Can be confusing for the audience if not well-managed, as the stream of information separates in two
