Apart being used as a transitional device, it can also be used as a means of expression. Although it is referred mainly as a visual technique, it can also be used in the soundtrack.
Characteristics:
- The use of dissolve can have the same disorientating effect than the visual superimposition, sound would need to be established anywhere within the sequence for the audience to orientate in the filmic space.
