E.A.S.

E.A.S. or Elements of Auditory Settings refer to the punctual sound residing in the ambient sounds.

The sound of a faraway dog barking is the only spatial cue given in that sequence of Tarkovsky’s “Mirror”.

Characteristics:

  • Improve the continuity in editing, wields two visual events together
  • Improve the recognition of space, usually used with easily recognisable generic sounds
  • Can make the ambiance density heavier and could result in unintelligibility
