Language identification

The ability to identify other languages, mostly foreign when not subtitled.

Characteristics:

  • Recognising foreign languages can help in orientating the diegesis
  • Identifying the general prosody of a language could also help in recognising the context (ex: German can be generally viewed as a “aggressive” language, knowing the general prosody of the language would underline the context in that case, especially if the scene is not)

Related effects: Prosody; Dialogue variables
