Conscious act of focusing on sound, there are three types, semantic, causal and reduced.
Semantic: voice
Characteristics:
- Advances narrative, main sound focus
- Can generate abstract experience when decentred

Characteristics:
- Strengthens spatial localisation for the audience
- With rendered sound, the recording and displaying method can harden the spatial recognition of the audience

Reduced: sound quality
Characteristics:
- Sole focus on sound for its quality
- Does not carry anything else in the spectators’ mind’s ear
