Point of audition

Point with which the sound perspective is heard in a filmic situation; it can be spatial or subjective; considering the microphone placement, the sound can be live or dead

Characteristics:

  • Follows the sonic extension of the diegetic space; can be spatially vast/null and subjective vast/null
  • If taken as vast, it can provide too much spatial information and become prone to density; if taken as null, it can provide too little information to be comprehensible

Related effects: Location sound
Related induced effect: Dead sound; Live sound
