If a sound is emitted from a source far away from the listener, the loudness and high frequency content of the sound will be diminished. The listener will interpret the distance of the sound considering the amount of the latest formants.
Characteristics:
- Distance can also be identified in reference to a closer/further sound.
- In enclose spaces, reverberation is added to the signal.
