Suspension

Extreme case of null extension, suppression of sounds that are naturally expected in a scene.

Characteristics:

  • Can add information to context and characters
  • No spatial cues apart from subjectivity
  • Part of the internal logic of the film when backed up by the narrative
  • Part of the external logic of the film when dissociated from the narrative
